Maximalist masters; House of Hackney are bringing their subverted victorian style decor to Bistrotheque from the 27th July when they open ‘The Gin Den’. The label is designing a limited edition Christmas bottle for Bombay Sapphire which will launch in Selfridges in October.
House of Hackney only began in April this year. It has been described as ‘Colefax and Fowler on acid’ and is a welcome antidote to recent years of minimalist interior design. The styling and ethos of the brand is decadent with a dark edge tying in with fashion’s fetish trend for AW11.
Clearly utilizing the move of retro and vintage fashion into the mainstream; House of Hackney injects whimsy and humour into a very British Victorian aesthetic. The Hackney Empire print sees badgers drinking cocktails, frogs in bowler hats and a sloth smoking a hookah. As well as bed linen, curtains and wall paper the prints now adorn fine bone china that draws on the techniques of traditional artisan potters.
